Jesse & Joy to Split: Everything We Know

Joy says she will fulfill the duo's commitments for 2026-27, following her brother's hiatus announcement.
Jesse & Joy will go their separate ways. The decision was made by Jesse Huerta, who surprised his fans — and his own sister — a week ago with a post in which he shared his personal reasons for leaving the duo he’s been part of for 21 years, achieving great success — including six Latin Grammy Awards.
“This has not been an easy decision,” admitted the musician and producer in an Instagram post on Sept. 15. “Music and this art are part of every second of my life and always will be, but today I understand that I need to prioritize my well-being and my family.”
Almost a week after the unexpected announcement, Joy — the main vocalist of the popular Mexican pop duo — has stated that she will continue the project solo. She first hinted at it in a message posted Tuesday (Sept. 22) on her social media and later confirmed it during a press conference, where the singer-songwriter spoke for the first time about her brother’s decision.
Through tears, Joy told the press that she leaned about Jesse’s decision just 20 minutes before he posted the message on his personal Instagram account.
“I found out minutes before you all did,” said the artist, visibly emotional. “I’m still processing; it’s too much information. He has his motives, his reasons. All I can do is respect them. I haven’t been able to speak with him. I love my brother deeply.”
Joy admitted to feeling scared after her brother’s announcement but confirmed that she will honor the commitments previously scheduled for this year and 2027. “If the audience wants to keep singing with me, I want to keep singing with you,” she said. “And the plans agreed upon starting Dec. 6 will remain in place.”
That night, Jesse issued another statement both from his personal account and the duo’s account to clarify his absence from the press conference and reiterate his love and support for Joy.
“Our team was informed beforehand that I would not participate in the press conference nor in the Dec. 6 concert at Auditorio Nacional,” wrote the musician about a Christmas show titled ¿Con Quién Se Queda el Reno? (Who Gets the Reindeer?), a play on words on their successful 2011 album ¿Con Quién Se Queda el Perro? (Who Gets the Dog?). “My sister has had and will always have all my love and support in whatever she decides to do, and the songs of Jesse & Joy will always be a part of me and all of us. I know you will continue to support her and me in our individual paths.”
In his Instagram post published Tuesday, Jesse confirmed that he will fulfill the duo’s commitments until Dec. 5. Their El Despecho Tour, which began in August 2025 with shows planned in the U.S., Canada, Bolivia, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Spain and the U.K., is set to conclude on Nov. 17.
The tour follows their most recent album, Lo Que Nos Faltó Decir , an eclectic set released in 2025 that showcases a diversity of sounds reflective of their bicultural upbringing (Mexico-U.S.), including pop, regional music, singer-songwriter styles and soul.
As for the Christmas concert ¿Con Quién Se Queda el Reno? , scheduled for Dec. 6 at Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City, Joy confirmed that it is still on and that she will fulfill the commitment solo. “The plans agreed upon starting Dec. 6 will remain in place,” she said during the press conference. “Jesse & Joy will continue in 2027 with my brother’s microphone left on and me on stage, if you decide to sing along with me.”
Jesse & Joy have achieved international recognition and multiple entries on the Billboard charts with hits like “¡Corre!” and “Mi Tesoro.” This year, Joy was honored with the Spirit of Change Award at Billboard Latin Women in Music for using her voice to advocate for immigrant rights, LGBTQ+ equality, women’s empowerment, the fight against gender-based violence and animal welfare.
